Modes

Drum Dojo has generated practice sets and a custom pattern writer. Generated sets use Pattern, Mode, Time, Difficulty, and one Bar 2 setting to write short reading lines; custom patterns let you author the two-bar idea directly.

What Changes Generated Notes

These settings change the rhythms and drum placements that appear in generated notation.

Pattern

  • Eighths

A steady eighth-note grid. Conventional mode keeps the hi-hat moving while kick and snare use the beat and & counts.

  • Sixteenths

A full 16th-note grid where kick, snare, and hi-hat decisions can land on 1-e-and-a positions.

  • Mixed

Each notated beat can use an eighth-note or 16th-note grid, so the line changes subdivision without changing the two-bar form.

Mode

  • Conventional

Groove-oriented placement. Hi-hat is the guide layer, kick favors structural starts, and snare favors backbeat or pulse positions.

  • True Random

Position-agnostic placement. Closed hi-hat, kick, and snare are sampled independently at each event position.

Time

  • 4/4

    Four quarter-note beats.

  • 3/4

    Three quarter-note beats.

  • 6/8

    Two dotted-quarter pulses grouped 3+3.

  • 5/4 (3+2)

    Five quarter-note beats grouped 3+2.

  • 5/4 (2+3)

    Five quarter-note beats grouped 2+3.

  • 7/8 (3+2+2)

    Seven eighth-note beats grouped 3+2+2.

  • 7/8 (2+3+2)

    Seven eighth-note beats grouped 2+3+2.

  • 7/8 (2+2+3)

    Seven eighth-note beats grouped 2+2+3.

Difficulty

  • Easy Beginning

Conventional grooves stay sparse and anchored. In True Random mode, each supported drum uses 20% per-position density.

  • Medium Intermediate

Conventional grooves add off-beat bass drum and occasional snare movement. In True Random mode, each supported drum uses 35% per-position density.

  • Hard Expert

Conventional grooves allow busier syncopation, more off-beat snare, and more kick/snare stacks. In True Random mode, each supported drum uses 50% per-position density.

Bar 2

  • Repeat

Bar 2 repeats bar 1 exactly.

  • Independent

Bar 2 is generated separately under the same settings.

What Changes Playback And Output

These controls change how much notation is displayed, when it is regenerated, and how it plays back.

  • Lines

Choose 2, 4, 8, 16 visible lines. Each line is one 2-bar exercise.

  • Tempo

Playback runs from 30 to 300 BPM, with 92 BPM as the default.

  • Randomize Set

Rewrites the current generated set while keeping the selected Pattern, Mode, Time, Difficulty, Bar 2, Lines, and Tempo.

  • Per-line playback

Every visible notation line has its own playback control and uses the current tempo.

Custom Pattern

Custom authoring sits beside generated practice when you want to build the exact line instead of asking the generator for one.

  • Two-bar writer

The editor writes 2 bars in the selected meter on either an eighth-note or 16th-note grid.

  • Scoped presets

Presets are scoped to the selected meter: 9 per meter, 3 per difficulty tier, and 72 total across all supported meters.

  • Supported drums

Closed Hi-Hat, Bass Drum, Snare Drum.

  • Articulations

Drum hits can be normal, ghost, or accent, and the custom preview shows those articulation choices in notation.

  • Notation and playback preview

The score preview updates from the custom draft and can be played back from the same page.
